NEW LIFE CENTRE

New Life Centre for girls (“New Life Centre”) is a registered Non-Profit Organisation, Public Benefit Organisation and Child and Youth Care Centre that rehabilitates children and orphans who are vulnerable or commercially sexually exploited and trafficked in South Africa.

Who We Are

New Life Centre is a home.
We are family with a mother.
We are a team.
We care. We support. We nurture. We protect. We develop. We rehabilitate. We enable. We empower.

The vision of New Life Centre is to free and develop women and girls who are vulnerable (orphaned, neglected, abused, exploited, at risk, etc.) in a warm and secure family setting, with the view to reunite them with their families and re-integrate them back into the society as productive, responsible and dignified members of the society. .

Our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and girls in South Africa who are vulnerable and at risk of exploitations through rehabilitation, formal education and skills development programs that lead to independence and for them to become productive members of the community

About Us

"I've always felt that there is no woman who can wake up one day and say her dream is to become a sex worker or prostitute. There must be a reason behind that." Ms Khopotso Nakin, Founder and Director of New Life Centre

New Life Centre was established in 2005 as an outreach programme to the brothels, clubs, vandalised buildings and streets of Hillbrow, Berea, Yeoville Johannesburg Central Business Development. The organisation initially targeted young girls who had become entangled in prostitution and human trafficking.

The organisation began holding individual and group sessions in the brothels with the girls. A drop-in centre was established in Hillbrow where the girls would come and have something to eat and learn skills like sewing, computer literacy, etc.

NLC also worked with the City of Johannesburg transitioning people out of shelters. The organisation helped people who were living and working on the street by assisting them to obtain or recover their IDs and birth certificates, training and job placements.

In 2009 a shelter was established as a result of finding children living with their mothers in the brothels and mostly vandalized buildings. The purpose of this shelter was to break the circle of prostitution, eliminate commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) and preventing child labour by offering a non-judgmental home environment,  and an opportunity to obtain education.

A testament to New Life Centre's success and value to the community is the living evidence of girls who were staying at the home who today are employed and living better lives. .

OUR Causes

Since its inception, New Life Centre has been renting accommodation and relies on donations in order to survive. Due to unreliable cashflow and limited resources, the organisation found itself fighting the threat of eviction over the years and especially during and post COVID. In a drive to become more sustainable we are looking to fundraise so we can acquire a property and develop a world class centre to accommodate the children, offices and a skills development centre.
